Desk Organiser

Hi! Before I start I'm just warning you that this post is kind of long :) Anyway, does anyone else have trouble keeping their desk organised? I'm one of those people that starts with a clean desk and has the ambition to keep it that way however, I usually don't and it ends up looking like a complete mess, with stationery everywhere! Previously I've used those cylindrical kind of can-shaped things, but I find they fill up too quickly and you can't put glue or scissors in them which is why I decided to make my own desk organizer, personalized to fit everything I need it to. It's really easy and chances are your'll already have everything you need to make it at home, or in my case hidden under junk on my desk! I don't have pictures of the stuff you need but it's just: scissors, glue, duct tape, empty toilet paper rolls, shoe box, small boxes that will fit inside your shoe box (I used a moisturizer one) and lastly a highlighter (optional, it's just for decoration). When making this you can be as creative as you like and tailor the organizer to suit whatever you wanna put in it!

To start off you wanna take your small cardboard box...
Cut off the ends and one of the sides (make sure it's one of the narrower ones) So if you were to draw the net shape there would only be three rectangles (hopefully that makes sense :) you also need to keep the cardboard that you're cutting off)...
Then take the duct tape and wrap it right around, make sure you don't tape the ends together to tightly, in other words you wanna tape as if the sides of the box are there...
Then you want to cut rectangles the size of the gap out of that cardboard that you cut off from the side and ends. Make sure they're cut the right size then slot them in, if you're box has writing/pictures on one side make sure that side goes up against the duct tape! Repeat the process for any other boxes you have...

Next you wanna take your empty toilet roll and kinda spiral the duct tape around it (the angle doesn't really matter, mine were different each time!)...
Now you were probably wondering what you were gonna do with that hideous duct tape that was hanging over. To start off you wanna trim it down so there's about half a centimeter all round, if you want to jazz up the front of the shoe box a little bit then stick it on (once you have multiple it looks like you ment for it to look like that, not that you had duct tape stuck to your thumb!) Then you want to start making clips (make sure you don't go through the cardboard!) all round, this is so that the duct tape doesn't bunch up and look odd. Just push each little section down and voila you've completed that roll. Time to repeat for all those other ones...
Ok, your almost done, bear with me for the last few steps! You want to take a glue stick and stick cardboard boxes into your shoe box, of course this is after you've layed everything out and figured out where you want it!

Now to stick those rolls in you need to be a bit on patient side, it's kinda fiddly. To start off with cut three strips of duct tape, roughly... I really wanna say an inch by a centimeter but that probably won't help anyone, so I guess 4 cm by 1 cm will safice! Then you want to cut about 3/4 of an inch (oops I'm doing it again! roughly 2 cm) of sticky tape. Put the duct tape around the roll evenly, then hold all of it together with the piece of sticky tape.

Now that you've created your sticky base, place it where you want it to be and push it down, you may need to use a pencil or something similar to do this...
Just keep whacking all those on! partway through mine looked something like this...

Then like this once I'd finished and put in all my stationery! As a final touch you can take a highlighter and go over the edges of the duct tape, make sure you let it dry cause otherwise your gonna have coloured fingers!

As you can tell quite a lot of stationery fits in here and it all looks super organised, things like staplers, hole punches and highlighters fit in here with no problem what-so-ever!
